How to choose a photographer?

First let me say, thank you so much for your interest in my work!  Here at Seraphino’s, I truly love what I do, and the people that I work with!

My complete goal is to leave you with images that are classic & timeless.  I love vintage things…and it comes out in my work.  I have some people that think my prices are more than fair – and I have some that think they are insane.  Most who think the prices are too high, don’t get how much work goes into what I do.  I’m constantly renewing my equipment, maintenance, & props to give you something beautiful & unique.   There is more than that 1-3 hours spent at your session, but then I come home – cook dinner for my family, baths, bedtime stories, clean my house from the tornado that blew through earlier that day:):)AND THEN FINALLY . . .while the rest of the world is sleeping peacefully in their beds - I stay up for very long hours during the night working tediously on all of my sessions which require 10-15 hours each.  Then I am back up again, after four hours of sleep:) - cooking breakfast for my little one & getting ready to start the day all over again.  They say you are what you eat,,,I say you get what you pay for.  Each to their own, I will let you be the judge of what works for you & your budget.  I absolutely love my job – but my time with my family is precious so if I’m going to be pulled away from them to work, I have to get paid for my time.  Even the bible says “The worker is worthy of his wages” – 1 Timothy 5

It seems that photographers are a dime a dozen today.  Someone picks up a camera – and voila!  They are now a photographer!  They also charge much less than I, and usually, like I said earlier – you get what you pay for.  I think it’s awesome that people are so enthusiastic about such a wonderful thing – trust me, I get it.  I LOVE photography.  BUT - I love ”good” photography.  A good photographer should not be based on who has the most inexpensive prices or the  most expensive equipment.  If you try to go the inexpensive route – you will find yourself severely disappointed with images that are far from professional.  If it was a session for something like your newborn baby, those are shots you just can’t get back again and you don’t want to chance it by trying to save money.  Having a newborn is a very special time that happens once - so it’s not an expense you will have to pay over & over – so go ahead and invest in a good photographer!  Same goes for choosing someone who has tons of fancy equipment…do you really want to spend thousands on something you can achieve without emptying your wallet?  I have seen some photographers who have spent literally thousands (ok, some hundreds of thousands) on equipment.  I mean, it is great if they have the money and can afford it.  But seriously – a good photographer can blow your mind with a $200 camera – if they know what they are doing.  I am self-taught.  Everything I know – has literally been years & years of hard work.  When looking for a photographer – it’s really quite simple.  Take a look at their photos.  Do you like what you see?

“It’s not the camera that makes the picture, it’s the photographer.  I think that the best selection criteria is to have a look at the final result, the photographs.   The ones that play with your emotions are the photographers, the rest are picture takers.” – Jerome van Passel
