What to Wear

I have so many people ask – “What should we wear?”  This is a very common question.

Here is what I suggest:

If you have scheduled a newborn session – I will mail/email you a newborn list and it will have clothing do’s & don’t on there.

My photography style is best described as being vintage, warm, & whimsical.  My goal is to create classic images that will look good on your walls in 30 years.   I get that zebra & hot pink are in style “now”- but not necessarily in 10 years.  My work leans toward the sweet & classic side.  Girls should look girly, and boys should look like little gentlemen:)  Layering your clothing adds texture and life to your pictures.  If you are wearing a shirt, bring a jacket or blazer to throw on over it.  Bring accessories such as jewelry, hats, scarfs, belts, ties, and shoes.  Avoid clothing with logos.  Color & patterns work great!  For family pictures, try and coordinate a bit, but don’t be identical.  Have you ever walked by stores at the mall & see the manican’s?  They always layer the manican’s…why?  Because it looks great!  If you are planning on buying outfits I highly suggest taking a stroll through the mall & window shop the manican’s.  You don’t necessarily have to spend alot of money buying those outfits exactly but you can piece together things you already have to make it work very similarly.  For little girls – I love pettiskirts!  Also dresses with tights,,,and mix-match patterns that coordinate are so cute!  Polka dots, stripes, lace, vintage styled outfits turn out adorable on film!  For boys-it’s all about the jackets & hats, and layering.  I love hats & ties on little boys.  Mix & match their outfits too.  Feel free to bring anything you want incorporated in the images.  If you’re going to invest in good pictures, the outfits need to standout and this truly makes or breaks a great photo session.  I have a ton of stuff here at the studio you are more than welcome to use.  If you book your session a month in advance – I will try to have outfits on hand for the session that can be used as well.
